Dublin live music map
Organisation: Technological University Dublin
Date launched: April 2025
Dublin is one of the smaller capital cities in Europe. A compact city, the first iteration of the Dublin map covers the central area of the city roughly 6km squared located between the two canals. The Royal Canal on the north side of the city and the Grand Canal on the south side.
The map lists 282 music venues which range from nightclubs, and specialist clubs to tourist-focused pubs. It aligns with the other maps in the live music research project to allow for comparison.
A feature of the map is that it has a time slider which allows you to go back to the year 2000 and track venues as they opened and closed over the past 25 years. It features dedicated Dublin iconic music venues such as the Pod and Whelan’s in the still vibrant Camden and Harcourt St part of the city as well as the many Tourist focused venues in Temple Bar as well churches and restaurants that host music events.
The maps database was developed by researchers from The School of Media Technological University Dublin and was further verified by a public hackathon in January 2025. We recognise that the map is very much still in development and look forward to having the opportunity to expand the map by music venue type and by timeframe over 2025.
