Biography
Mathew Flynn is a Lecturer in the Music Industry at the University of Liverpool and Assistant Director of the Institute for Popular Music. Prior to joining Liverpool in 2018, he taught music business and professional development at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). Before moving into higher education, Mat was a self-employed practitioner in the music industry, owning rehearsal rooms and an independent record label. He has been a member of the Liverpool City Region Music Board since its formation in January 2019. His current research interests include decision-making in the music industries, the impact of the pandemic on Liverpool’s music sector, the experiences of Liverpool’s Black music makers and practitioners, and mapping and valuing regional live music sectors.
